Fine Arts (New at the Illinois Valley YMCA)

Programming for the arts is a new initiative the Illinois Valley YMCA has embarked upon this year. Adults and youth can now express themselves with programs that stimulate the mind, open the creative side, and explore the artist in each of us. Some of the ongoing Fine Arts programs to look forward to will include the four arts of Music, Art, Dance and Drama.

The Illinois Valley YMCA is now offering unique art, music and dance classes that are designed to provide a stimulating environment and bring awareness of what the visual and performing arts have to offer to our community.

Art Adventures (ages 7-13)

Bring out the inner artist to nurture creativity. Learn about primary colors, color mixing, and different types of art mediums. Create different art projects at each class.

Adult Drawing

This adult class is designed for all levels. Learn to draw faces, figures and landscapes. The instructor will provide materials such as sketch pads, drawing pencils, charcoal, and chalk. While no experience is necessary, shared expertise is welcome in a guided open studio environment. 2 - 2 hour sessions.

Preschool Paints (Ages 3-4) 3 Sessions

Become your own Picasso. Traditional & not-so-traditional painting techniques. Dress to experiment. If your child is enrolled in the Y SuperTykes or KinderPrep class, they will be brought to class by the classroom teacher if attending during class time.

Creative Wonders (Just for 4's) 3 Sessions

Cutting, gluing, pasting and beautiful art are all included in this class. Great for building fine and gross motor skills. If your child is enrolled in the Y SuperTykes or KinderPrep class, they will be brought to class by the classroom teacher if attending during class time.

Spooky Craft (ages 5-8)

Halloween is just around the corner. Join in making a spooky craft that will be sure to spook you!

Adult Oil Painting (ages 15 & Over)

This adult class is designed for all levels. The instructor will provide materials such as, but not limited to, all oil points, brushes, canvas and/or canvas boards, and other oil paining materials. While no experience is necessary, shared expertise is welcome in in a guided open studio environment.

Art H2O (AGES 9-14)

This class is all about water. Your artist will create a one of a kind watercolor painting using the different watercolor techniques. After the 1 hour painting class, the artists will get to relax in the water park for a fun 1 hour swim.

Printmaking 101 (Ages 9-14)

Artists will learn printmaking techniques in this class and create holiday greeting cards.

Ornament Craft (ages 7-13)

Artists will create a one of a kind ornament in this class using sculpting and painting techniques.

Bling! Bling! (Ages 5-8)

Sculpt it, stamp it, bead it, wear it! Enjoy creating a unique piece of jewelry using polymer clay and other jewelry making materials. This class is not just for girls!

Sculpture Workshop (Ages 7-13)

This workshop will focus on creating a sculpture using a wire armature and plaster craft. Sculptures will be painted and ready for display after the workshop is over.

Adult Basket Weaving (18 and over)

This innovative class is a fun way to learn basic basket weaving techniques and practices. In a guided environment you will learn how to create a hand-woven basket that you will take home. Expert basket weaver, Leasa Tipton, will teach you the skills necessary in this fun filled class. All materials will be provided and are included in the class fee.
