 LIFEGUARD TRAINING COURSE

At the completion of this course successful candidates are eligible to be community certified lifeguards with the popular International Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Program – same program used to train The Illinois Valley Link Aquatic Center staff! Course includes water safety, rescue techniques, basic first aid, Professional Rescuer CPR, AED certification and emergency oxygen support training. Completion of this class does not guarantee employment with the Illinois Valley YMCA. NOTE: Taking this course may not qualify participants to work at area aquatic facilities. Payment of the course fee is not a guarantee of certification.  Participant should bring sack lunch for 7/19 & 7/20 if needed.
Prerequisites:15 years of age or older before course begins; Swim 100 yards continuous using front crawl or breaststroke; Tread water for 1 minute using legs only; Feet first surface dive to retrieve a 10 lb brick from a depth of 9 feet 6 inches.

JUNIOR LIFEGUARD MINI-CAMP Ages 9-14

What better place to develop leadership skills than at the YMCA. By being involved with our Junior Lifeguard program teens will learn to interact with children, peers, and adults in an effective manner. Daily sessions will consist of physical training, lecture/demonstration, team building activities and leadership training. Students will receive instruction in water safety, public relations, facility operations, basic work skills, lifeguarding skills, first aid and CPR. Graduates will have the opportunity to continue their training through volunteering in the year-round IV YMCA Junior Lifeguard Club. A graduation ceremony will be held at the Illinois Valley YMCA at the conclusion of the camp. It is recommended that participants have lunch prior to each class. NOTE: Participants must exhibit self-control while participating and volunteering.

 

 

Prerequisites:  Swim 50 yards using front crawl or breaststroke without resting, surface dive and retrieve a 10 lb brick from 4ft of water, swim underwater10 feet.

June 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11

SESSION 2:

July 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23

TIME: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

FEE PER SESSION: (Y-Member & Non-Member) $42 1st child; 25% off for second child

UNDER THE SEA TREASURE ADVENTURE

Ahoy Mates! Legends say thar be treasures buried at the Link Aquatic Center. Bring your friends and search the depths for the treasure in a fun underwater hunt. The little buccaneers will bring home treasure, enjoy a snack and participate in a treasure themed craft project. All swimming abilities welcome. Bring swim suit & towel.

AGE:   5-12 yrs

FEE:    $6.00 1st child, 25% off for second child (Y-Member & Non-Member)

 

 

Competitive Swim Class

Experience the four competitive strokes, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly stroke. Proper stroke techniques using fun, and skill drills practice. Instruction on starts, turns and finishes for all four strokes will be covered. Sign up for all four sessions or choose only the sessions you are interested in. Children MUST be able to swim 25 yards freestyle to enroll.
