PBS & Illinois Valley YMCA

YMCA Activate America and PBS have become community partners to inspire communities to “take one step” toward a healthier lifestyle.  Through this partnership, YMCA members, staff and volunteers will learn more about the important health awareness project PBS is launching in February called, Take One Step: A PBS Health Campaign.  The series of programs in this campaign will help viewers better understand four urgent health issues—heart disease, obesity, cancer and depression—that threaten the lives of millions of Americans today.  It’s a call to action, offering primetime programming and extensive outreach tools to help people aspire toward better health. On February 14 at 7:30 pm the Illinois Valley YMCA will host a viewing party for adults and teens. The viewing party will include healthy cooking tips, recipes and food samples. This event is free to YMCA members and $2.00 for Non-YMCA members.

YMCA Skate Park

Today, there are more than 350 skate parks across the country. Every community and nearly every town is looking for ways to keep the skateboard crowd busy and safe. The Illinois Valley YMCA was ahead of the trend and built an exciting park on YMCA property. Through funds from the State of Illinois and numerous private donors, nearly 300-400 kids utilize the park on a daily basis when weather allows. Another innovation of the Illinois Valley YMCA meeting community needs.
