Dear YMCA Members and Friends,

The opening of the YMCA Link Aquatic Center has really been the buzz of the community. Your Illinois Valley YMCA now has 3 new separate pools, new locker rooms, family and private change locker rooms, new preschool enrichment center, party room, lounge area, concession stand, and large lobby area. Also, the YMCA is hosting Illinois Valley Community Hospital Center for Physical Rehabilitation and Aquatics in the 15,500 sq. ft. Miller Building. Your YMCA has more programs and opportunities for the entire community! In addition, a new software system will enable the member to register for programs easier. The YMCA has also installed a state of the art security system, new page system and several other items that will make YMCA visits special.

How satisfied are you with your YMCA membership is the question we will constantly ask you. We want your input and suggestions to improve our service to you - the member. Your voice is important and your comments, both good and bad, will help shape this YMCA for the future. Please read through our email newsletter and give us your feedback.

Chief Executive Officer

Therapy Pool Popular Option

The new therapy pool at our YMCA features some unique features. The pool was designed by a number of professionals in the field of physical therapy with your comfort in mind. Jim Scarpaci, the Director of Physical Therapy for Illinois Valley Community Hospital, along with orthopedic physicians, spent a lot of time to design the most complete physical therapy pool in the region. The pools include easy access steps, along with the railing system to ensure safety for each participant. The water temperature ranges from 89 - 91 degrees. The pool has 4 different seated jet stations with each station focused on a muscle area of your body. Also, the pool has (2) underwater treadmills and under water exercise bikes. You will find the underwater equipment fantastic! A Badu jet is included in the deep area and allows you to swim against the current. The pool for all YMCA members is open 7 days a week.
Monday - Friday  7:00 am - 9:00 am
                            11:00 am - 1:00 am
                              4:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Saturday             10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Sunday                12:00 pm - 5:30 pm

In addition to the therapy pool, IVCH offers the Center for Physical Rehabilitation in the Miller Building next to the therapy pool. You can make an appointment by calling 780-3509. YMCA members also receive discounts on many programs offered by IVCH.

Chair lift, stairs and individual whirlpool stations are part of the new therapy pool

YMCA Preschool Enrichment Center
Stimulates learning

The new YMCA Preschool Enrichment Center features 3 new classrooms with a curriculum that fosters an enthusiasm for learning. YMCA preschool enrichment has about 110 kids involved. The children begin to develop cognitive, motor, emotional and social skills. Play is to children what work is to adults. Teachers prepare the environment for self directed learning, as well as shared experiences that provide the foundation for language and literacy, math, science, technology and arts. Enrollment for the 2007 school year will be held in late January. YMCA currently has a few openings in the following classes:

KinderPrep III - Mon/Wed/Fri - 9 am - 11 am

SuperTykes I - Mon-Thursday - 8:30 am - 10:30 am
SuperTykes II - Mon/Wed/Fri - 1:00-3:00 pm

The program utilizes YMCA facility amenities like swimming,

Health Tip
Focus on your Core

Consider the fact that age and overuse eat away at the cartilage in your joint sites like the knee, ankle, and hip areas. Because of this, it is important to condition the leg, hip, and thigh muscles to absorb as much of the impact as possible while running. By performing exercises like squats, lunges, one-leg balance, functional movements and agility drills, you can not only improve your joint strength, but also build muscle. Swim, weight train, and using cardio machines will assist with building muscle areas to support joints.

Massage available at YMCA Miller Building

Live your life while you have it. Life is a splendid gift - there is nothing small about it."
     Florence Nightingale

If you wish to appear wise in the eyes of fool; you will appear a fool in the eyes of  the wise

Confidence likes to play hide and seek

The wise have something to say, the foolish have to say something

A lot of fellows nowadays have a B.A., M.D., or Ph.D. Unfortunately, they don't have a J.O.B.

A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject.
     Winston Churchill

A word to the wise ain't necessary -- it's the stupid ones that need the advice.
      Bill Cosby

There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will.

The wisest mind has something yet to learn

The wise man in the storm prays God, not for safety from danger, but for deliverance from fear.
     Ralph Waldo Emerson

Happiness is a choice that requires effort at times

Happiness is not a destination. It is a method of life.

When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us."
     Helen Keller

The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up
     Mark Twain

He who has a thousand friends Has not a friend to spare, While he who has one enemy Shall meet him everywhere.
     Ralph Waldo Emerson

The best way to destroy an enemy is to make him a friend.
     Abraham Lincoln

Without friends no one would choose to live, though he had all other goods
     Aristotle

If you want to win friends, make it a point to remember them. If you remember my name, you pay me a subtle compliment; you indicate that I have made an impression on you. Remember my name and you add to my feeling of importance.
